Obama Smoking Cigarettes - Did Obama Really Quit?

by CECILIA HOLMES

Before he started campaigning for the Presidency, Barack Hussein Obama II, announced that he will quit smoking cigarettes. Reports said that he used nicotine patches and Nicorette chewing gums to help him quit. Unfortunately, his resolve lasted for just a few months.

Inaugurated on January 20, 2009, President Obama was born on August 4, 1961. When asked about smoking, he said that he had "fallen off the wagon." And when he was asked further, he replied, "What I would say is that I have done a terrific job under the circumstances of making myself much healthier. You will not see any violations of these rules in the White House."

Why did President Obama decide to quit? Because he is aware that smoking causes thousands of deaths in America. And the overwhelming increase in smoking-related diseases and deaths made him decide to set an example. He may have succeeded for a few months. But he has not given up. That is why he promised that violations to the no-smoking rule in the White House will not be made.

Obama may have succeeded in quitting but stress made him turn to smoking cigarettes again. It is a fact that smoking relieves stress because of its nicotine content. Nicotine, a stimulant, is responsible for the feeling of calm that a smoker gets. And it is nicotine that also makes smoking cigarettes very addicting. Incidentally, nicotine is also responsible for some of the smoking-related diseases like heart attack and stroke.

It is important to note that stress can make a smoker's mind change when it comes to quitting. If what to do during stressful moments is what makes you worried, worry no more. Because you can still think of many de-stressing activities that are good for your body - sleep, soak in the tub, watch a movie, jog, read a book, and many others.
